PAMIR BIOLOGICAL INSTITUTE
оюлхпяйхи ахнкнцхвеяхи хмярхрср
Pamir biological Institute was organized in 1969/ Located not far from Khorog City √ the Center Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast (Pamir) of Republic
of Tajikistan

Institute consist of next sections :

     Laboratory of experimental ecology of plants;
     Laboratory of medicinal plants;
     Laboratory of genetic and selection of plants;
     Laboratory of highland fruit growings;
     Laboratory of zoology
     Pamir▓s Botanical Garden;
     Laboratory of forage crops plants;
     Laboratory of physiology of plants stability;
     Museum "Pamirs Natura"

Support points and research stations of institute are situated on different of Pamirs highland;

     support point Chechecti (3860 m above Sea level);
     support point Ishkashim (2600 m above Sea level)
     support point Vanj (2100 m above Sea level)
     support point Pochak (1150 v above Sea level)
     agroecological research station Jelondi (3600 v above Sea level)

There are 133 research workers in Pamirs Biological Institute. One of them is Corresponding Member of the Academy of Science of Tajikistan. 4-doctors of
Science (biology); 17-condidates of Science (biology); 9 √ of them are studying Post Graduated courses, 24 √ have University Degree.

The main directions of scientific research of Pamirs Biological Institute are next issues;

-Total studying of Pamirs biological resources and elaboration recommendations on rational using of these resources for need of national economy:

-To study biodiversities of Pamirs plants and animal world, elaboration methods on protecting and re-establishment of destroyed by human biogeocenosus.

-To study mechanisms of physiological and developmental processes of plants in extremal factors of Pamirs highland. Reveal (clarification) the love of UV- B
radiation and temperature changes (factors) in formation of plants productiveness.

-To study peculiarities of plants introduction and acclimatization in highland conditions.

-Searching new species, kinds, sorts and selections of fruit growing appropriated for cultivation in highland conditions.

-Elaboration technologies for fruit √ growing, apple-tree, apricot, pear √ tree, cheery-tree, walnut and same others for hardened rocky slopes of West Pamir.

-Searching and application of the achievements to production or for cultivation new sorts of forage crops rich in contact of nutritious ingredients.

-Creation and study the genofund of Pamirs growing, technology of cultivating new agricultural seedlings, cereals and forage crops.

-Elaboration scientifically methods of approach on regulation the member of parasites (vermin) by means of biological methods of combating, by using their
natural (biological) enemies.

-Protection of Pamirs animal world and elaboration new methods of conservation biogeocenosus .

-Elaboration scientifically methods of approach on complex using of geothermal sources of Pamirs highlands for need of (agriculture) national economy.

For systematic stationer investigation Pamirs Biological Institute dispose about 7637ha of hardened rocky areas which situated on different altitudes from 1150
till 4760m above the sea level. About 7000ha of areas situated in East part of Pamir and 612 ha in the environs of Khorog City. In these spacious areas
represented all categories (type) of substrates typically of Pamirs highland. This made possible to study in general outline all natural areas of Pamir and to
elaborate the development model of Pamir the main aim of which is to protect (conservation) and rational using of biological resources.

The main results of scientific investigation in field of physiology and biochemistry of plants were the systematical study of Effects of Ultraviolet Radiation (UV-B)
on growth, morphogenos, mezostructure of the plants leaf, transpiration the level of photoharmons and inhiberes of growth, otherwise plants acclimation
mechanisms to ameliorate or repear the effects of UV-B radiation. Also was studied the effects of UV-B on acclimated and non-acclimated species of plants
under laboratory and field conditions and result revealed the effects of UV-B on hormonal status of plants. Proved that effects of UV-B-as ecological factor of
highland first of all appear on leaf thickness, number of parechium stratum and on thickness of surface lager epidermis. These peculiarities of leaf structure of
highland plants should consider as corresponding reaction to external factors of highlands.

For the first time was studied and placed stocks of medicinal buckwheat plants of West Pamir and Darvaz. Also revealed two types of new for science
wildgrowing grassy plants, new places of Shugnan onions and Angelica ternata

Have been studied genofund of wildgrowings and ornamental fruit-trees of Pamir on the height of 1000 till 3050m above sea level.

Research resulted that fruit-trees such as apple-trees,apricot-trees,pear-trees, cherry-trees, walnut and etc in West Pamir conditions possess high level of
polymorphism

Picked out perspective sorts ornamental fruit growing that don▓t need in additional selection, 15-sorts (species) of apricot-tree,12-sorts of apple-tree,10-sorts
of pear-tree,6-sorts of walnuts,2-sorts of cherry-tree,1-sorts of grapes and etc.

In field of plants protection (conservation) have been found 24 types of plants damages (vermin) of medicinal plants and potato. Medicinal plants basically
damages by vermin▓s in the heights up to 1800m above sea level. Beyond the appointed height the quantity reproduction of vermin▓s sharply decreased.

In condition of East Pamir studied out the agrotechnical cultivation of local wildgrowing forage crops growing . Provided that if keep on agrotechnical
approaches on cultivating in this area conditions than the result of harvest should be 35-40 c/ha of dried mass of forage crops.

In glasshouses and special areas for seedling of the Institute are prepared 20-30 thousand of fruit trees and ornamental (decorative) flower growings.The result
of science investigations of researchers published in 12 monographs,8 recommendations and more than 200 scientific articles and thesis▓s in our country and
other countries.
